emarketforecasts - Brazil
Abstract
The Brazilian electronics market was ranked eighth worldwide in 2006, with electronics production ranked four positions higher at twelfth. Currency movements have had a major impact on the dollar growth rate. Expressed in dollars, production increased by 26%, 29% and 27% in 2004, 2005 and 2006, respectively, while in local currency production was significantly lower at 18% in 2004, 7% in 2005 and 13% in 2006.
The proportion of production exported is still low although it has been increasing rising from 9% of the total in 1998 to an estimated 14% in 2006. In contrast, imports have increased more significantly following the lowering of tariff barriers. In 1992 imports accounted for 18% of the market and after increasing sharply following the lowering of import tariffs have remained relatively stable in recent years accounting for 35% of the market in 2006 at US$12,156 million.
