Production declined by an estimated 1.0% in 2008 and is forecast to fall by 9.3% in 2009 as demand declined in the wake of the global economic downturn. Canada's major industry sectors include fixed and wireless communications (including defence). Combined, the communication sector accounted for 46% of output in 2008 down from 62% in 2000.
