After four years of growth electronics output fell by 3.4% in 2006 by 0.3% in 2007 and by 7.5% in 2008. In 2008, unlike the prior two years when growth in the semiconductor sector helped offset declines in the computing, communications and consumer segments, output fell across all sectors of the industry. Although the Singapore electronics industry was unable to offset the global downturn the resilient semiconductor segment resulted in a better performance in 2009 than the prior year with output falling by 5.3%. .
