Abstract
Output for the Spanish electronics industry declined by 14.0% in 2009, the ninth consecutive year since it peaked in 2000. Output is forecast to fall further in the period to 2011 in part due to the weak domestic economy but also from competition from manufacturers in low-cost locations. Telecommunications still plays a major role in Spain's electronics industry but has been hit hard by the downturn in the sector since 2000. In 2009, it accounted for 18.1% of the total down from 36% in 2000. Production declined by 11.8% in 2009 and will decline in both 2010 and 2011 but only modestly. At the end 2011 telecommunications output will have fallen by around 75% since the peak in 2000.
