Abstract
Output for the Spanish electronics industry declined by 4.9% in 2006, the sixth consecutive year since it peaked in 2000. Output is forecast to fall further in the period to 2008 although the rate of decline is expected to ease.
Telecommunications plays a major role in Spain 's electronics industry but has been hit hard by the downturn in the sector since 2000. In 2006, it accounted for 17.4% of the total down from 36% in 2000. Output declined by 23.4% in 2001, 41.3% in 2002, 6.4% in 2003, 14.7% in 2004, 6.9% in 2005 and 10.8% in 2006. Production is expected to decline further in 2006 and 2007 and by the end of the forecast period will have fallen by around 72.5% since the peak in 2000.
