Abstract
Electronics output in Thailand increased by an estimated 8.9% in 2006, this following growth of 8.1% in 2005 and 6.5% in 2003. Growth in 2007 is forecast to slow to 6.9% and this should ease further in 2008 as demand weakens globally in the key semiconductor and computer markets.
The computer sector accounted for 45% of production in 2006, output increasing by 12.7% on the back of strong export growth. Production is expected to moderate in both 2007 and 2008. Production of components accounted for 32% of total production in 2006, due to the dominant position held by semiconductor companies. The production of electronic components increased by an estimated 8.2% in 2006 a 16.1% rise in the production of semiconductors, being offset by slower growth for other components.
