In 2015, electronics production for the Spanish electronics industry increased by 5.8%, slightly down on the 6.1% increase reported in the prior year. Output is forecast is forecast to increase by a further 2.7% in 2016 and 2.3% in 2017 on the back of the continued increase in domestic activity and demand from key export markets. Although downside risks remain, including competition from lower cost locations, output is forecast to show modest growth over the period to 2020. Telecommunications still plays a major role in Spain's electronics industry but has been hit hard by the downturn in the sector since 2000. In 2015, it accounted for 14.6% of the total down from 36% in 2000. After declining by 14.8% in 2013 output increased by 6.7% in 2014 and a further 7.5% in 2015 and is forecast to show further growth in both 2016 and 2017. In 2014, the production of communications and radar equipment increased by a significant 26% with strong growth both in radar and navigation and wireless communications. Growth eased in 2015 and 2016 but remained relatively robust at 6.7% and 5.0%, respectively.  The production of radar and navigation equipment accounted for an estimated 74% of the segment’s total in 2016 and over the period to 2020 should benefit from the on-going growth in the aerospace segment and the recovery in defence spending over the forecast period. Growth in the production of computer equipment continued to track down in 2015 although after seven years of double-digit declines output fell by only 4.8%. Production is forecast to decline further in 2016 and 2017, at 4.0% and 3.0%, respectively and then remain at this level throughout the period to 2020.  .
