The Swedish electronics industry remains centred on the production of fixed and wireless infrastructure equipment, the two sectors accounting for 56% of electronics output in 2016. Output declined however for the fifth successive year in 2016, declining by 12.4% and was forecast to decline further in 2017. In 2017, total electronics production declined by an estimated 2.5% with growth in control and instrumentation, medical and industrial offset by the on-going weakness in the communications sector. Electronics output is expected to stabilise in 2018 as the impact of restructuring in the communications sector eases with production increasing by a projected 2.7%. Production of wireless communications equipment declined by an estimated 11.7% in 2016 and a forecasted 8% in 2017 before stabilising in 2018.  In the same period telecommunications output declined by 13.3% and is forecast to fall by 7.0% in 2017 before posting growth of 2.5% in 2018. Telecommunications accounted for 23.8% of total electronics output in 2016 and wireless communications 32.2%. Radar and navigation accounted for 9.3% of electronics output in 2016, the sector declining marginally during the year. Growth however, is expected to post a modest increase in 2017 and then accelerate to 3.9% in 2018. The other predominant sectors are control and instrumentation with a 27.6% share in 2016, up from 7.5% in 2000, and components with a 11.2% share. Computer equipment accounted for only 1.4% of the total, while consumer production was negligible.
