Production of computer hardware accounted for 36% of total output in 2016, production declining by 29.6% in local currency and by 32.8% in US dollars. In constant exchange rates output is forecast to decline by a further, but more modest, 8% in 2017. The on-going weakness in the economy, which resulted in a double-digit decline in output in 2015, persisted in 2016 resulting in the output of wireless communications declining by a further 5.5%. Production of consumer products accounted for 10.3% of total electronics output in 2016. Production of colour TVs is predominantly undertaken in the Manaus Free Trade Zone with, according to ABINEE an estimated 8.5 million produced in 2016, down from 9.5 million a year earlier and a peak of 14.8 million in 2013. As with other sectors of the industry, in particular those closely aligned to developments in the overall economy, output is expected to recover in 2017 and post growth in the medium-term.
