Although electronics output remains significantly below the C$29 billion seen at the height of the communications led boom in 2000 output in the Canadian electronics industry has stabilised. Although electronics production is estimated to have declined by a modest 1.2% in 2016, this followed growth of 2.0% in 2014 and a more substantial 13.3% in 2015, and is forecast to increase by 1.6% in 2017.At 36% communications and radar is the largest sector within the Canadian electronics industry.  Production was flat in 2014, but increased by a modest 1.3% and 1.4% in 2015 and 2016; respectively with this trend forecast to continue in 2017 with grow of 1.5%. In contrast, the production of telecommunications equipment declined sharply between 2008 and 2014 and although the decline was only modest in 2015 output it posted a further double-digit decline in 2016 and was an estimated C$71 million. At the peak in 2000 the production of telecommunications equipment stood at over C$9 billion. Control and instrumentation was the second largest segment accounting for 26.9% of output in 2016. Following double-digit growth of 13.5% in 2015 output was flat in 2016 but is expected to post growth of 2.5% in 2017 as exports recover. The computer sector accounted for 16.8% of output in 2016. After several years of decline production, according to government figures doubled in 2015, although this expected to be an anomaly rather than a reversal of fortunes for the sector. Provisional figures saw output decline by 5.3% in 2016 with a further fall forecast in 2017.
