Since the communications led boom in 2000 output in the Canadian electronics industry has declined significantly with production falling by 62% from C$29 billion to C$11 billion in 2015. Electronics production, however, has stabilised and showed a modest increase of 2.2% in 2014 and a more substantial growth of 11.8% in 2015. At 35.5% communications and radar is the largest sector within the Canadian electronics industry.  Production was flat in 2014, increased by a modest 1.3% in 2015 and is forecast to grow by a further 1.2% in 2016.  In contrast, the production of telecommunications equipment declined sharply between 2008 and 2014 and although the decline was only modest in 2015 output is now under C$100 million. At the peak in 2000 the production of telecommunications equipment stood at over C$9 billion. Control and instrumentation was the second largest segment accounting for 26.9% of output in 2015. In 2015, the sector reported growth of 13.5% on the back of strong growth in exports. With the more subdued outlook for the global economy more modest growth of 3% is forecast for 2016. The computer sector accounted for 16.7% of output in 2015. After double-digit declines in 2012 1nd 2013 output fell by a modest 0.6% in 2014 but rebounded strongly in 2015 with growth according to government figures increasing by nearly 40%.
