Growth in the computer segment was able to offset declining semiconductor output resulting in a modest increase of 0.9% in 2019, and compared to 2.7% and 10.8% in 2018 and 2017, respectively. The semiconductor sector is dominated by assembly and test. Subsidiaries of overseas companies include, Texas Instruments (TI), Amkor, ON Semiconductor, Nexperia (the former Standard Products division of NXP Semiconductors) and Fuji Electric. Production posted growth of 17.2% in 2017 on the back of a buoyant global semiconductor market and although easing, output increased by a further 8.8% in 2018 before declining by 5.4% in 2019 in response to the slowdown in the global semiconductor market. The Philippine computer industry is made up mostly of foreign owned subsidiaries. Major players include Toshiba, Acer, Canon and Epson. The Taiwanese company Kinpo Electronics has transferred a proportion of its printer production from China to the Philippines. Production declined by 4.3% in 2018 but rebounded strongly in 2019, increasing by 8.2%, and despite COVID-19 is forecast to grow by a further 2% in 2020.
