VOLUME 3 - EMERGING COUNTRIES 2006/2007
Published since 1990 Volume 3 of the Yearbook of World Electronics
Data extends our coverage to include several emerging
markets, significantly China, Mexico and Turkey. Events in China continue to dominate the global electronics industry.
The country accounted for nearly 18% of global output in 2005,
compared to 4% in 1997. China has been boosted by a growing indigenous
industry and an influx of overseas manufacturers looking for
substantial cost savings. The growing domestic market is forecast
to account for very nearly 16% of the global total by 2009,
further fuelling overseas investment.
Mexican producers heavily dependent on the US market, saw
production decline steeply in 2001 and 2002. With manufacturing
costs also rising, it is expected that in the future the country
will face increasing competition from other low cost regions.
Despite this, its proximity to the worlds largest market
will ensure that Mexico will remain an important production
centre with growth forecast throughout the period to 2006.
